
BUS ACCIDENT CLAIMS 12
The City of Ekurhuleni send condolences to the families of those who passed on in a bus accident near the O.R. Tambo International Airport this morning.
The accident which had claimed 12 lives and left another 45 people injured occurred around 06:45. The injured were taken to the O.R. Tambo, Thembisa and Edenvale hospitals.
“We are lost for words. This is a disaster. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, and our prayers for a speedy recovery to those who have been taken to various hospitals around the area,” said a visibly devastated MMC for Roads and Transport Planning in Ekurhuleni Cllr Andile Mngwevu from the scene of the accident this morning.
“To see so many bodies lying around is quite saddening, and the city really feels for the families who would have expected to see their loved ones return home later today. Our hearts are extremely heavy right now.”
The MMC has vowed that the city will leave no stone unturned to get to the bottom of the cause of the accident.
At the time the statement was issued, police investigators and other stakeholders were combing the scene for various pieces of evidence that may shed some light as to what transpired. Initial investigations have not revealed if there were other vehicles involved in the accident.
