ETWATWA PUBLIC TRANSPORT IMPASSE RESOLVED
Calm has been restored in Etwatwa following a two-day community protest over public transport issues, which started yesterday, 12 August 2024.
Following a marathon meeting led by Ekurhuleni MMC for Transport Andile Mngwevu today, an agreement has been reached between all concerned stakeholders and taxis are expected to be fully operational as of tomorrow morning, 14 August 2024.
Cllr Mngwevu together with members of the Benoni Taxi Association (BTA) met with the community of Etwatwa to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
MMC Mngwevu says further negotiations will continue between the city and the BTA so that normality, affordable and seamless public transport for the communities of Etwatwa, Daveyton and surroundings can be guaranteed.
Law enforcement officials will remain on the ground to monitor the situation until the situation normalises.
