RIETFONTEIN LANDFILL SITE REMAINS CLOSED

The Rietfontein landfill site in KwaThema remains closed due to ongoing community unrest. However, the city continues to engage with the aggrieved members of the community to find an amicable solution to the impasse and reopen the facility.

Members of the public and companies are encouraged to use alternative sites in the meantime.

The closure of the Rietfontein landfill site, if not sorted out urgently, may affect waste removal services in the eastern part of Ekurhuleni as waste trucks are forced to travel longer distances to dispose of waste at facilities such as the Platkop landfill site near Katlehong and others.

The city apologizes for the inconvenience this situation is causing and hopes that this matter is resolved soon.
