SIMMER AND JACK LANDFILL SITE TEMPORARILY CLOSED
The South African National Defence has been deployed to the Simmer and Jack Landfill Site in Germiston following a shooting incident between illegal miners and waste reclaimers.
The situation is so serious that the City has taken a decision to temporarily close the facility and allow the military to stabilise the situation.
Once the situation has stabilised the city will inform users and the public in general accordingly.
Waste removal trucks are currently being redirected to the Platkop landfill site, near Vosloorus to offload until the Simmer and Jack facility re-opens.
The city pleads for patience from customers and residents alike as this current situation is likely to affect waste removal services across the city. However, we remain committed to rendering timely and effective waste management services at all times, and where backlogs area created, catch-up operations shall be undertaken.
