SPRINGS WASTE REMOVAL BACKLOG UPDATE
The City will be engaging aggrieved communities of some parts of Springs in an effort to address an impasse that has led to a stoppage in waste removal services in parts of the area.
Although the date of the meeting has not yet been confirmed, all parties have agreed that it must take place some time this week.
The city’s waste removal teams, escorted by the EMPD, managed to address backlogs in Welgedacht and Persida areas over the weekend and only Slovo Park is left behind.
The waste removal in parts of Springs started on Tuesday when workers were taken hostage and vehicles illegally seized by certain members of the community who were protesting over issues of employment in the waste removal contract.
The City remains committed to restoring the service as soon as possible and apologises for any inconvenience this has caused.
