WORK TO CLEAR ILLEGAL DUMPING IN THEMBISA ONGOING

The City’s officials working together with the members of the community have rolled up their sleeves to clear illegal dumping spots in Thembisa.

This comes following complaints from residents about the waste seen dumped in various parts of the township, including along main roads.

In response, the City has dedicated more resources to the area to ensure that the situation is brought under control. Over and above cleaning up, the municipality will soon be introducing a waste management education campaign aimed at empowering locals about general waste management.

“It is important that while we clean up we also educate our people about general waste management and the dangers of poor management of the waste that gets discharged everywhere, especially the issue of illegal dumping. Very soon our teams will be engaging the public in this regard,” says metro spokesman Zweli Dlamini.

The City cautions residents against illegal dumping and encourages ratepayers to get their 240L wheelie bins from the municipality to contain the issue of domestic waste and avoid illegal dumping which is harmful to people and the environment alike.
