A CLARION CALL TO PROTECT WATER RESOURCES
With National Water Week fast-approaching, the City of Ekurhuleni reminds residents to continue protecting and conserving water resources.
Ekurhuleni is home to over 200 water bodies such as rivers, dams, lakes, and wetlands, most of which are infested with pollutants due to illegal dumping – hence the clarion call to protect and conserve this natural resource.
This year’s National Water Week takes place from March 20 to 26, under the theme “Water for All”.
The city’s Department of Environmental Resources and Waste Management calls on members of the public to mobilize themselves into groups and adopt a river, wetland or a dam in their neighborhood to clean-up during the National Water Week – this is because public participation in water resource management has proven to be crucial for community development and resource sustainability.
Communities within the City of Ekurhuleni may register their National Water Week initiatives and in need of more information can contact Alugumi.Makushu@ekurhuleni.gov.za.
