CITY MIGRATES CUSTOMERS ACCOUNTS FROM RAND WATER
The City of Ekurhuleni will migrate about 176 water supply accounts currently billed by Rand Water to the city’s billing system. The transition is aimed at improving water demand management and ensuring compliance with the Water Services Act (Act 108 of 1997) of South Africa.
“Historically, certain large-scale water users and domestic customers located on the city’s periphery received their water supply directly from Rand Water. While these customers adhered to water conservation laws, the city did not have full oversight to effectively implement water demand management strategies and monitor the supply.
“This migration will consolidate control under the City of Ekurhuleni, enhancing service delivery and resource management,” explains the municipal spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, adding that there will be no disruption to water supply services during this transition.
The migration process will be completed by Monday, 30 June 2025. Thereafter, starting from 1 July 2025, the water consumption and sanitation services charges will appear on the municipal account of the affected customers.
“Services will be billed according to the city’s approved tariff schedule for Water Supply Services and Sewerage Disposal Services and updated annually on 1 July of each year in line with the beginning of the financial year of the institution. The tariff schedule is available on the City’s website www.ekurhuleni.gov.za,” explains Dlamini.
To ensure a smooth transition, a special water tariff has been established under section 3.15 of the tariff schedule.
