EKURHULENI URGES RESIDENTS TO PLAY THEIR PART IN WATER SAVING AND REDUCTION OF WATER LOSSES
The City of Ekurhuleni urges all residents to adopt water-saving practices to help ensure a sustainable and reliable supply for everyone.
Seasonal factors such as warmer temperatures of spring season commonly increase water demand. This might have a potential of undermining the significant progress the city has made on effective water management.
In July 2025, the City’s Non-Revenue Water (NRW) decreased by 1.38% compared to July 2024. This reduction indicates more efficient use of water.
Water sales also grew in July 2025, with residents and businesses consuming 262.9 million kilolitres of billed, metered water – an increase of 6.88 million kilolitres compared to July 2024.
Additionally, the total volume of water supplied into the system (System Input Volume) rose slightly to 370 million kilolitres in July 2025, up from 367 million kilolitres in the same month last year. These figures highlight the success of the city’s ongoing efforts to reduce water losses, improving efficiency, and delivering greater volumes of water to the community.
Overall, these positive results underscore the City of Ekurhuleni’s commitment to water conservation and sustainable water management.
The city is reducing water losses through effective billing and revenue collection and replacing ageing pipes which burst frequently. Dysfunctional bulk and customer water meters are also replaced timeously so that water flows can be measured accurately to determine the locations of the losses.
As demand rises with the warmer months ahead, the city calls on residents to continue using water responsibly and sparingly.
