RESIDENTS URGED TO CONSERVE WATER THIS SPRING

The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to remind its residents of the importance of water conservation, especially during the spring season.

“As the temperatures begin to rise so will the use of water, and during that time it is crucial that we all do our part to preserve this limited resource.

“The City of Ekurhuleni is committed to promoting water conservation and sustainability. We encourage all residents to join us in this effort by adopting water-saving practices in order to avoid Day Zero,” says the City’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Below are some water saving tips to assist residents:

  • Water your lawn and garden in the early morning or evening to minimise evaporation;
  • Fix leaks in your irrigation system and adjust watering schedules based on seasonal needs;
  • Sweep driveways, sidewalks, and steps rather than hosing them off;
  • Plant drought-tolerant plants and trees that require less water;
  • Use a spring-loaded shutoff nozzle on your garden hose to avoid water waste;
  • Avoid washing cars with hosepipes, but rather use buckets; and
  • Turn off taps while brushing teeth.

“By following these tips and making water conservation a priority, residents can save money on their water bill as well as reduce strain on water treatment facilities,” Dlamini explains.

Residents are encouraged to report any water leaks through the City’s Call Centre using any of the following platforms:
