THOUSAND OF HOUSEHOLDS AND INDUSTRIES WILL BENEFIT FROM THE NEW RESERVOIR

In a bid to provide adequate and reliable water supply to its residents, the City of Ekurhuleni is building a 15 mega litter reservoir in Dawn Park.

The Cossins Reservoir is an addition to two other reservoirs of smaller capacity already supplying the area.

During the Mayoral Legacy Projects monitoring by the Executive Mayoral Committee (MMC) on Friday, 25 June 2021, the MMC for Water Sanitation and Energy, Cllr Tiisetso Nketle said the construction of the  Cossins Reservoir was expected to be completed by early January 2022 at a cost of R88 million.

She said that more than 40 000 households and the industrial area were expected to benefit from this new reservoir.

This is one of the 29 reservoirs that the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mzwandile Masina made a commitment to have constructed between 2016 to 2021.

These reservoirs will  have a  storage capacity of 417 mega litres, translating into approximately 12hour additional storage capacity. Currently the City’s water  storage is 36 hours.

“This means the City will be able to supply water for a period of between 36 and 48 hours without getting the supply from the water supplier, Rand Water,” she said.
