WATER AND SANITATION MMC CLLR SIBEKO ENCOURAGES WOMEN TO SEIZE OPPORTUNITIES IN WATER-RELATED CAREERS

MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy Cllr Senzi Sibeko has encouraged women and girl children to seize the opportunities provided by the city in careers such as water purifiers, planners and engineers.

The MMC was speaking at water and sanitation Women’s Month commemoration to showcase the progress women have made in the male-dominated water-related career fields.

The event was held at Boksburg customer care centre on Friday, 26 August 2022.

To promote water conservation and water hygiene, MMC Sibeko later on the day led a women team to distribute water containers to households at Ramaphosa informal settlement.

He urged residents not to use containers that previously carried paint, oil or any harmful substance to store water.

“With this water campaign, we are extending the Blue Drop water from the tap to the households. This has been one of the initiatives by the city in promoting safety and hygiene in water storage and consumption in all households. Even though a container that previously carried chemicals, oil, or paint may be cleaned, it may still compromise the water safety. That is the reason we distribute these containers,” MMC Sibeko said.

“City of Ekurhuleni is Blue Drop certified which means we provide good quality water. The city’s water was certified by the National Department of Water and Sanitation after a vigorous audit of the entire water system. This is attested to by the 2022 Blue Drop Progress Report that found the city’s water treatment capacity and process control to be of a high standard, and that the water quality meets the required microbiological compliance,” he said.
