Auditions for Ekurhuleni Slam Poetry Open
The City of Ekurhuleni will host a slam poetry at the Dumisani Masilela Theatre in Germiston on 04 December 2020. This is a form of performance poetry to support and improve the literacy levels of participants. Slam Poetry is an important form of language the youth can use to describe their thoughts and feelings about anything, and it is also a gateway to the world of literature. It inspires the audience to pen and voice their thoughts with skill, which usually implies that they must read, whilst it is also fun.
The final event on 4 December 2020 will be preceded by auditions which will be held as follows:

The Auditions will be structured in the form of one performance at a time with a maximum seven people per group. The poetry categories and adjudication will be based on narrative poem, lyrical poem and dramatic poem and no one under the age of 16 will be allowed to participate in this slam poetry. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the event on 4 December 2020 will only be a live streaming event, and guests will be per invitation with all COVID-19 protocols adhered to.
