City Of Ekurhuleni Celebrates Oliver Reginald Tambo

October is celebrated widely across the country as OR Tambo Month. The City of Ekurhuleni has lined up activities to pay homage to this stalwart of the struggle for emancipation of all the oppressed South Africans.

These activities include laying a wreath on his and his wife Adelaide’s gravesite in Wattville. The couple have been laid to rest at the Tamboville Cemetery in Wattville, which was declared a National Heritage Site by the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) in 2012. The OR Tambo precinct next to the cemetery comprises of the OR Tambo Narrative Centre – interpreting his life and legacy through exhibitions, a craft centre, an amphitheatre for live cultural events, environmental education centre and a craft trail between the precinct and Tamboville Cemetery.

This year’s theme for the commemorations is “Drawing on OR Tambo’s legacy to help fight global pandemics of Covid-19 and Social Injustice.”
