EKURHULENI HOSTS INDIGENOUS GAMES FESTIVAL TO PROMOTE ELDERS’ WELL-BEING

The City of Ekurhuleni successfully hosted the Indigenous Games Festival for senior citizens aged over 60 years at Germiston Stadium today, 30 July 2025. The festival was to promote mental well-being, community bonding and inter-generational pride. It was also to celebrate South Africa’s rich heritage, culture, and traditions.

Some of the traditional African games played by the senior citizens were Kgati, Diketo, Morabaraba, Ncuva, Dibeke, Jukskei, Kho-kho, Intonga and Driestokkies.

The stadium buzzed with energy as elders demonstrated skill, teamwork and cultural pride, proving that staying active is not just for the young.

Communities are encouraged to continue promoting active, healthy lifestyles for old people beyond today’s festival.
