EKURHULENI HOSTS THE EASTERN GAUTENG AQUATICS GALA
The Delville swimming pool in Germiston is proudly hosting provincial and international swimmers participating in the South African Regional Level 2 and 3 gala.
The week-long event started last Wednesday (20 March) and ends this Wednesday (27 March).
The category A swimming facility has hosted over 1 537 swimmers since the start of the competition. The swimmers hail from different parts of the African continent including South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, and Angola.
Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA) president Cheryl Knight says they are thrilled to be the hosts of the 2024 South African Regional Level 2 & 3 competition.
“This competition is important for the development of swimmers and creation of future stars,” says Knight. “What makes us even more proud is the fact that we are playing a critical role in the foundation phase of our future stars.”
Knight also indicates that the Delville swimming pool has a history of hosting big galas and these include hosting the regional aquatics competition for over 20 years, and has produced swimmers who went on to represent their countries at the Olympics.
“Events of this nature make the city proud and put Ekurhuleni on the map in as far as sport development is concerned. As a city we remain committed to ensuring that these facilities continue to produce future stars by ensuring regular maintenance,” says city spokesman Zweli Dlamini, encouraging all stakeholders to ‘play their part in keeping the facilities in good shape’.
The Delville swimming pool is a category A heated outdoor Olympic size facility that hosts provincial, national, and international events.
