CITY CALLS FOR CALM FOLLOWING PROTEST THREATS

The City of Ekurhuleni is calling for calm among communities amid threats of service delivery protests in various parts of the region.

The threats surfaced on various social media platforms over the weekend, and they were calling for massive protestations today and tomorrow (18 and 19 August). The viral social media messages were calling for all residents, including City employees, not to go to work and scholars not to attend school but join the purported shutdown.

However, as of this morning, things are normal throughout the city and the municipality remains vigilant in monitoring the situation.

In the meantime, we call upon the communities of Ekurhuleni to remain calm and protect public and private infrastructure. We further appeal that our officials are not intimidated and harassed but rather be allowed to do their work, which is to provide critical services to our people.

Should any incidents surface, communities are urged to report such to law enforcement.
