CITY SERVICES REMAIN UNINTERRUPTED BY INDUSTRIAL ACTION
After having received notification from Municipal Employees and Civil Servants Union (MECSU) to embark on a strike from yesterday, 11 September 2025, the city would like to reassure residents that services remain stable and uninterrupted.
The strike is about a demand to convert some employees of the city from a fixed term contracts to permanent employment.
The city’s services, including essential services such as emergency services, healthcare provision and policing remain uninterrupted by the industrial action.
The city will implement no work-no pay principle on employees who participate in the strike. All employees are reminded to abide by the city’s Code of Conduct during this period. Any disruptive behaviour, violence or any form of misconduct and intimidation during the industrial action will be dealt with in terms of the Code of Conduct for employees.
The city has noted a worrying phenomenon of mobilising non-employees of the city, who are working for city’s contractors, such as cleaners, security guards to participate in these protests.
The city will monitor the situation to ensure that the services to our ratepayers remain uninterrupted.
The city informs residents that should you experience any service interruptions, you are encouraged to contact our call centre on 0860 543 000 for assistance.
