EKURHULENI PROUDLY HOSTS HISTORIC Y20 SOUTH AFRICA 2025 SUMMIT

The City of Ekurhuleni is proud to host the first ever Y20 South Africa 2025 Summit which is currently underway at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg.

The summit which has brought together the global community started on Monday, 18 August and runs until Friday, 22 August.

Speaking on the first day of the summit, Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for youth programmes in the City, Cllr Mzayifani Ngwenya, highlighted that ‘the summit is crucial’ as the engagements are key in preparing for the upcoming G20 Summit which will take place in the country in November 2025.

“Through this event, voices and perspectives from the youth will go far in influencing international discussions and decisions which are key in shaping a better world. This is a way of empowering youth voices for global impact in socio-economic issues,” said MMC Ngwenya.

The youth leaders from G20 countries have come together to develop policies suitable to address current global challenges. The summit is considering the following:

  • Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability;
  • Inclusive Economic Growth and Employment;
  • AI, Digital Innovation, Education and the Future of Work;
  • Meaningful Youth Engagement and Reforming Multilateralism; and
  • Inclusive Social Development and Addressing Inequality.

The G20, or Group of Twenty that will be held in November 2025, is an international forum that brings together heads of state and leaders of governments from 19 countries and the European Union to discuss pertinent global issues. The summit further serves as a platform for dialogue and cooperation on issues such as sustainable development and financial stability.
