PARTS OF THOKOZA WITHOUT POWER DUE TO FIRE AT SUBSTATION Z7

The city’s technicians are working around the clock conducting repairs at the Thokoza substation Z7 which caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday, 24 September 2025.

The city’s emergency services teams responded swiftly to extinguish the fire. Investigations as to the cause of the fire are still ongoing.

The power supply interruption is affecting both customers in the residential and industrial areas in:

  • Thokoza North;
  • Hostels;
  • Mpilisweni; and
  • Part of Alrode.

The estimated restoration time has not yet been established. Customers are urged to treat electrical networks as live while work is ongoing.
