RESIDENTS OF KWATHEMA RECEIVE TITLE DEEDS

GERMISTON – The City of Ekurhuleni handed over title deeds to over 50 residents of
KwaThema Extension 3, today, 19 September 2025.
The beneficiaries expressed their excitement and thanked the city for the long-awaited, life-changing housing units.
The new homeowners were cautioned against using their title deeds to secure short-term
loans from loan sharks. They were also advised to keep the title deeds safe as application for
reissuing of a title deed is costly, with fees ranging between R7 000 and R10 000.
In terms of the Housing Act 107 of 1997, a beneficiary of an RDP housing unit may not sell it
within the first eight years of having taken occupation.
The title deed is endorsed to require the mandatory buy-back by government to reallocate it
to persons on the government-housing waiting list.
