SUSPENSION OF THE CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER OF THE CITY OF EKURHULENI

The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to inform the public that Mr. Moloko Monyepao, the Chief Information Officer (CIO), has been placed on precautionary suspension following a resolution by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Council in its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 27 March 2025.

This decision arises from serious allegations of mismanagement related to financial losses incurred by the City, primarily due to issues around inaccurate billing systems, interim meter readings, account manipulations, insufficient administrative oversight, and poor management of business systems.

Council has authorised the City Manager to appoint an independent investigator to thoroughly examine these allegations within the next 30 days. The precautionary suspension of Mr. Monyepao is deemed necessary to ensure that the integrity of the investigation is maintained and to uphold good governance principles, accountability, and transparency within the City administration.

The City of Ekurhuleni reaffirms its commitment to ensuring accountability, financial prudence, and ethical governance.
