WELTEVREDEN LANDFILL SITE CLOSED DUE TO ESCALATING ILLEGAL MINING ACTIVITIES

Operations at the Weltevreden landfill site in Brakpan have been halted due to escalating dangerous working conditions resulting from illegal mining activities and clashes between illegal miners and waste reclaimers.

The city has closed the landfill site to protect employees and customers from potential harm. The site will remain closed indefinitely until the environment is safe for operations.

The city has reported the situation to the law enforcement agencies.

Customers are advised to use other facilities such as the Rietfontein landfill site in KwaThema, Rooikraal in Dawn Park or Platkop landfill site near Katlehong.

The city apologises for the inconvenience this has caused.
