Keep Ekurhuleni Clean Project Sweeps Streets Clean
The Keep Ekurhuleni Clean Project launched by the City in March has brought smiles to over 1000 residents through the creation of temporal job opportunities.
Every day, the ‘Keep Ekurhuleni Clean Brigades’ as the workers in the project are known as, embark on cleaning of scattered litter, servicing of street litterbins, timeous removal of all filled bags and eliminating of minor dumping hotspot areas around the City.
Nomusa Chibuku (38) stays in Germiston and is employed as one of the brigades. She says her normal day of keeping the City clean starts at 7am until 5pm.
“We are tasked to keep the city clean especially now during the coronavirus period where hygiene levels must be maintained. I am glad that even though we work in conditions that can easily expose us to the covid-19 virus, our employer makes sure that we have all the necessary protective equipment we need to keep safe,” said Nomusa.
The litter picking services have greatly improved the cleanliness of the environment across the city.
