Metropolitan Spatial Planning
The MSP division deals with the development and management of the metro’s spatial planning, frameworks, strategies and policies in compliance with the provisions of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act. To effect these MSP coordinates, oversee and facilitate the development, alignment and implementation of effective spatial planning programmes and initiatives across the metro, including alignment and integration with sector plans/master plans prepared by other departments.
Imperative is that the utilization of land resources is planned and implemented in an organized manner to meet the needs of present and future generation and this is done through various planning tools of which the Spatial Development Framework is a core. The division supports the delivery of projects (public & private) to ensure their implementation within statutory, regulatory and financial parameters.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Achievement to date include:-
- Approval of Metropolitan Spatial Development Framework (2015)
- Approval of Regional Spatial Development Framework 2015 (Regions A to F)
- Approval of 18 Urban Design Precinct Plans (2020 & 2021)
- Approval of Ekurhuleni Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (2021)
- Approval of Growth Management Strategy (2022)
- Awarded Best MSDF by SAPI
- Mentorship Award by SAPI for the University of Venda programme.
